about.

Fine Art Research Ltd offers academic support to art market professionals.  We work with dealers, art advisors and auctioneers, providing in-depth research for specific items (literature checks, exhibition history checks, liaison with authentication committees, detailed catalogue footnotes, provenance research, etc.).  There is a colossal amount of material available in libraries and museum archives. When used appropriately, it becomes an excellent tool in promoting rare artworks and further educating collectors in the academic importance of these pieces.

In a highly competitive environment, with collectors able to obtain pricing and historical data themselves through online resources, it is crucial for art market professionals to put connoisseurship forward and provide their clients with bespoke information.  Collectors who purchase works of fine art also buy a provenance and a piece of history, all things that can be revealed by thorough research.

Fine Art Research Ltd was set up in April 2017 by École du Louvre educated Clémence Couriet Bossan (BA, MA).  After a few months in Sotheby’s London Furniture department, Clémence joined former Sotheby’s director Patrick van der Vorst and his team of fifty specialists to help set up online valuation business ValueMyStuff, and later on premium on-site valuation company St George Valuations.  She worked as a valuation manager for St George Valuations for five years before concentrating on art history research for private sales, focussing on unique Impressionist and Modern works.  Following the company’s merger with Paddle8, she joined the private sales team, a position in which she was responsible for consolidating the department's research methods, as well and implementing new and comprehensive guidelines.  Clémence has been working independently for various auctioneers and art advisors since February 2017.
