Fine Art Research
about.
Fine Art Research Ltd provides academic support to art market professionals, working with dealers, art advisers and auctioneers to deliver in-depth research on individual works. Services include literature and exhibition history checks, liaison with authentication committees, detailed catalogue footnotes and provenance research. Drawing on extensive resources in libraries and museum archives, the company supports the promotion of rare artworks and enhances collectors’ understanding of their academic significance.
In an increasingly competitive market, where collectors have direct access to pricing and historical data, art market professionals must foreground connoisseurship and provide clients with tailored, authoritative information. The acquisition of a work of fine art represents not only a purchase but also the acquisition of a provenance and historical narrative, revealed through rigorous research.
Fine Art Research Ltd was established in April 2017 by École du Louvre–educated Clémence Couriet Bossan (BA, MA). After a brief period as an intern in Sotheby’s London Furniture Department, she joined former Sotheby’s director Patrick van der Vorst and his team of specialists, contributing to the early stages of the online valuation platform ValueMyStuff, before moving on to the premium on-site valuation firm St George Valuations. Clémence subsequently served as Valuation Manager at St George Valuations for five years before concentrating on art historical research for private sales, specialising in rare Impressionist and Modern works. Following the company’s merger with Paddle8, she joined the Private Sales department, where she was responsible for consolidating research methodologies and implementing comprehensive new guidelines. She has worked independently for auctioneers and art advisers since February 2017.
